Still time to make your donation
Hi all still time to contibute a few dollars to the Smith Family to help to make disadvantaged kids school experinces a whole lot better. Thanks again to everyone for supporting my ride, your efforst are already making a difference so well done to you all. Your ride album will soon be on its way as away of showing my apprciation for your fantastic support.
Thank you to everyone that supported my efforts this year to raise funds to assist kids in their early years of education and the words of encouragement to complete the 135km ride. Weather was perfect, with very little wind and heat was about right for a riding activity. We raised just over $3450.00 and I do appreciated the donations that are coming in post event, it all still counts. My time was under 8 hours, being 7:42 hours (which includes most of the stops at water points and if there where 100 traffic lights I got stop at 99 of them. Met a lot of people with common ambitions who made the ride quite pleasant along the way. My hat goes off to Adrian Matthews who ride the entire way on a tank of a bike, it has one gear, he had one speed (flat chat) and wore his work coat all day to ensure his employer doubled the amount he and his team raised. Look for Adrian in the photo album I'm sending to sponsors. Bloody fantastic Adrian. Photo; yep finished the ride.
One last call for donations
Hi all, once counting down the days, now counting down the hours. At six oclock Sunday morning I will commence my ride of 135 kms in support of moving "disadvantaged" to "advantaged" kids in schools thanks to the many donations I have received. If you have'nt made a donation just yet there is still time to get it in before Sunday morning. To show my appreciation all those who do donate will get a bonus ride album, not much of an incentive however the real incentive is more about the focus on kids and improving their school expereince. Photo yes, I did finished last years ride (with Aaron and his Dad).
Few Day To Go More Dollars to Raise
Hi all, the Bike Guru is sponsoring my ride by repairing my bike and replacing a few things that got damaged last year when I fell off at the start, bunged up me knee and badly bent my gears beyond repair, which nearly stopped me from riding last year. So thanks Daz. I have all my gear and food set out on the kitchen table so I dont leave anything behind. Last year I ran out of water between water points, it was hot and I was dry, so this year I'm carry two water bottles. Photo attached is a bit of inspiration for me from kids that are recipiants of funds raised through this riding event. Thanks to everyone for your kind donation as every single dollar makes a difference.
Just 11 days to go
Morning all, getting in a few more kms before the big day. Almost reached my new target and thanks to all those who are supporting my ride through your donations to support kids at school.
Another Week and a Few Dollars Closer
Hi all, another week closer to the big event and even closer in reaching my (reset) goal. Thank you all for your great support. I'm getting in training during the week between the rain and sunshine but its all good. We got in a 50 km ride in this week with a 36 km race planned for next weekend. This will be our last road race for the winter series, with track racing starting in a couple of weeks. Photo is my training support team (George on my right and brother Dave on my left) after our 50km ride. Have a great weekend, talk soon George
Hi all, another week closer to the main event and almost reached my new target so thank you for your support. Weather has been all over the place but got in a good 50km while the sun was shining. Photo is of my training support team, George and Dave are keeping me focused and on the bike.
Motivational Drivers at Front of Mind
Morning all, another hard day racing on Saturday with the Colac Cycling Clubs Road Chapionships on the go. All I can say is a got more time in the saddle than most other riders, also did a few more Kms warming up and cooling down. However I have not lost sight of my motivational driver. Have a look at the photo and see if you can guess what is motivating me. Thanks, talk soon.
Fanstaic support means raising the Bar
Hi all, I am feeling extremely greatful for all the support coming in for kids. Its fantastic, and its giving me the courage to rasie my goal yet again. This will be the forth time in recent days - unreal and thank you all. I am planning to put together a ride album covering my journey around the bay and of the many other riders particpating. Thanks again for your support. Photo: Me having a crack at the Police and Emergency Services Games, after my first Around the Bay ride - it looks like I'm working really hard, yep I was, and proud to wear the colours.
Only 4 weeks to go
Morning all, nice to see a bit more sunshine to encourage us to get out and about. Training is going well on and off the bike, with some gym work and walking now in the mix. Club road cycling championships this weekend at Beeac so hoping to get in a few more kms in the saddle. Photo: You only have to be young of heart to have a crack at cycling. Thanks my brother on the left (Dave) with Clare and George after completing the O'Dwyer Family 50 sponsored raod race. Clare (the only one of us under 63) first just beat George who came in second.
Another great day out riding
Hi all, had a great day out racing Saturday, got in over 50kms in around 1 hour and 48 minutes with an average of 28 kms/hr. Also got in a few extra Kms as well. So if anyone want to do the maths for my round the bay ride his will give you a bit of an indicator. Looking forward to a few more donations to reach my target. Enjoy the sunshine while appreciating the rain. Old photo, me at 14 years, one of my many wins and I still race on that track bike.
When it gets tough
Hi all, still getting in a few Kms each week between the rain and wind events. Would be easier to sit in front of the fire but that wont help many kids or get me to the finish line on the 7 October. Photo Red Rock 50 Race, thats me coming not quite last, but boy I had a good time in gale force winds, hail and rain. Thanks again for your donations.
Training hard and just a few more dollars to get
Hi all, just a few more dollars to go to reach my target, be very happy if I go over it though. Still training and working on my fittness. All is good.
Getting On Target
All is going well with my training, though I will be doing alot more once the weather becomes a bit more stable.
Remember to pass the word around that I'm looking for sponsors, every single $1.00 donated is valued.
Don't remember the pain so doing it again
Hi all, if you can't ride this event how about tossing a few bob into me hat.
